My new single ‘downpour’ is out today!

It’s Track 5 in my challenge to release 10 singles by 1st January 2027. Officially half way through!

Of all the tracks in this challenge so far I’ve struggled with this one the most. I just felt creatively ‘stuck’ on it for a while. When I get that way I feel like I throw more and more at the wall, creating a big mess of stuff to sort through. Then comes the sculpting and editing to finally get somewhere I’m happy with.

I was heartened to learn this is a ‘valid’ approach used by 100 gecs, which they talk about on their Tape Notes episode.

The track blade bird was a big influence, and when I felt stuck I analysed the structure and composition of that track to give me guidance. It’s amazing what oklou can do with so few sounds.

The looming deadline was probably most helpful on this track! I think if I didn’t have that I’d definitely still be working on it for weeks to come…
